Finally a Decent New ISV Website
If you're in the market for a powerful and user friendly Help Desk solution, please take a look at my company's flagship product HelpSpot.There's been a spate of posting to the JOS forums lately with people wanting feedback on their websites. I'm sorry to say that almost all of them are terrible. My cheapskate post pretty much covers my thoughts.
I've been feeling a bit negative on the community as a whole lately actually. I think people are starting to distort the MicroISV idea. It started as an idea that one person or a small group could make big products (support your family big at least) by using new tools and leveraging the internet. Now some people think it means produce junk with out much work and make a bunch of money. I mean if you're putting no thought into your website how serious can you be about your web based business?
So I was happy to see a post tonight by Jason Sankey about his new product, Pulse. I encourage you to go checkout his site. If you're going to send around a link for thoughts your site should look at least this good before you bother or you're just wasting peoples time.
Great job Jason, good luck!
Discussion
Ian, I agree Pulse site is well done. Good job Jason! I am curious to know if Jason used a profesional designer or is one of those rare folks with technical and aesthetic talent.

I was just thinking the same thing the other day (about the quality of ISV sites/products going downhill), wondering if it was just my perception or a reality.
The sad thing to me is so many of the sites on BoS you never hear about again.. i'm guessing they just fade into obscurity. I guess if you can't spend time on your website you cant spend time on marketing.

Let's face it, there are always people going to be around who think that this is the way to go... of course, it isn't. ![]()
JOS is increasingly becoming "saturated" or so it seems. Forums of that quality are unlikely to go un-noticed by the "software company" mid-school pupils (I was one once...) for long. Their sites mostly "fade into obscurity" as Phil put it because that's just one of many steps in different directions trying out what it is they enjoy doing most, I presume.

I would bet that he designed it himself. It's wise of whoever designed it to keep the site simple and clean though.
As for the MicroISV's out there... I am not impressed at all with the people out there who think they can go for the quick buck. If you don't take pride in what you create then your cheating anyone who would give you money for your product.

This comment removed because the poster had much to say, but was too scared to use his name. I'll be happy to repost if the person would like to stand behind what they say. {ian}

Who cares what my name is? Does it going to change what you said already? No matter what, if you are scared to hear different opinion, people like you are going to be one of the reasons to make the microISV tainted. I'm not bashing you or trying to insult you but thought it is hypocrite to do one thing and say something else later.

Please find the link where I say throwing up a cheap website is good business. Find that and I'll take you seriously. I've been very very consistent in my feelings since before my company made one sale, that even MicroISV's should spend money to have professional looking logo's and websites. I've been more adiment than almost anyone else about it.
