I am literally 1/4 mile away from ATT coverage and now you are telling me if I could actually have an iPhone I could get this!?! Almost makes me want to move!

Actually I was sort of in the same boat and I've found the coverage to actually be much better than I thought. Also, since I barely use the actual phone part and mostly use email/web it hasn't been too big a deal to have an occasional lapse in coverage.
