Blogs, Still the Best Advertising
If you're in the market for a powerful and user friendly Help Desk solution, please take a look at my company's flagship product HelpSpot.
Today I found a new referrer in my logs to my Creating a Business Logo post. It appears that Trabber (some type of travel search startup) hired Mike Rohde to do their logo based on that post. They did a short write up of their own on how they found Mike.
The post make me realize yet again that the advertising power in blogs is immense and better than that, it’s self propelling. Mike has gotten a lot of business from that post and he’s only going to get more. As companies find the post and talk about it, the post propels itself higher. You could never buy this type of advertising power.
The post is currently #1 on Google for creating a business logo and #6 for creating a logo.
BTW Mike’s work on the Trabber logo is fantastic, I love it.

Hi Ian.
More information in case you are more curious...
I remember finding your post about "Creating a Business logo" two years ago, when I was looking for the first logo for Trabber. At the time I really liked the process that you described but, on one side, we were on a hurry to have a logo and, on the other side, I thought it was very expensive for us.
Some months later, a friend, Eduardo from Panoramio, hired Mike to do their logo and after talking to him and thinking about it we finally decided that we had to do the same.
And here it is, we also love it !

Thanks Oscar for the background. I like the Panoramio logo as well, but yours is better

Ian, this is fascinating to read after the fact — I think Oscar may have mentioned you, but I hadn't known about Eduardo's feedback. I know Eduardo wrote a post about his logo design process a few years ago, and like yours, his is still out there.
I'm amazed that your post is #1 and #6 depending on search terms, but maybe I shouldn't be. I think your blog has good authority, which you have worked long and hard to build.
I think this also goes to show that doing good work and caring for your clients needs also matters, because if Oscar had found these posts, but you and Eduardo were unhappy with me and my work, the cycle ends.
And I think you are right about blogs being great advertising and PR, because you can't fake someone being happy enough with the work being done to post about it.
I see it as a long-term cultivation of both doing good work, talking about that work so it's available to be found, and then maintaining high quality work for every client. If you take any one of those components out, I think the eco-system breaks down.
No comment on whose logo is better — I love all of my logo children equally.

Definitely. In fact it reinforces how important good work and a good working relationship is. It would have been almost as easy to write a negative post that ranked this highly and could be very detrimental to a business.
