Bloglines Great for Publishers

If you're in the market for a powerful and user friendly Help Desk solution, please take a look at my company's flagship product HelpSpot.
As a publisher (blogger) Bloglines gives me something that no other RSS aggregator does. The ability to see what my readers are reading. This is extremely powerful stuff. I have about 50 readers who read this site via Bloglines and of those about 20 have "public" feeds. Since I see the list of public feeds subscribed to this blog I can then back track and read what they're reading. This leads me to alot of other great blogs and also gives me a huge insight into who my readers are.

For the most part they seem to be current or potential ISV's which isn't surprising, but is really nice to know! Of course this is just one aggregator and in general a small sample of overall readership but I think that with a sample size of 20 that it's large enough to be statistically significant and not just a fluke.

Well you keep reading and I'll keep writing, deal?

Hey, please check out what my readers are reading!

I think that blogging is developing into the main marketing tool for those starting a microISV. Certainly I have just started one for my new startup and I have been following yours and a few others in the last few months. I sure helps to know your not alone!

Good luck with the project and I like the look of the screen shots you have shown so far. They look good without going over the top to being gimmickaky (if there is such a word!)

Thanks.

Yep definitely trying to avoid gimmicks.

Thanks for the link to your blog, I'm now subscribed! The thing I love about reading alot of MicroISV blogs is that we all have so much we can learn from each other. That's the big reason I started blogging and I think as some of our little companies "grow up" together we'll really be able to help each other out since we'll have had some interactions from the very beginning.

Ian,

How do you find out who is subscribed to your feed in Bloglines? I use Bloglines also, but don't know where to find out who is subscribed to my feed.

I was just thinking the other day that all these new micro-ISV's should be able to help one another someday. For now, just networking with each other and wishing each other luck is a good start.

Ian,

Never mind. I found it. Just click on the subscriber stat! Duh! smile

I thought MicroISV.com was going to be a leader in getting all these new little companies together, but it doesn't look like that's the case. It mostly seems to be a tracking site with very occasional links. I'd really like to start a more proactive organization that helps ISV's work together in innovative ways. I haven't had the right idea to get this started around but I'm still thinking! If you have any ideas on this front I'd love to hear them.
