Best Mac RSS Reader?

If you're in the market for a powerful and user friendly Help Desk solution, please take a look at my company's flagship product HelpSpot.

Since I’m done with NetNewsWire (you have no idea how sad it makes me to say that) I’m looking for the next best thing. Thoughts?

My thought? Don't cut off your nose to spite your face. If you think NetNewsWire is the best, carry on using it. Unless there is some RSS feed you read that you really don't want anyone else to know about! Otherwise, what's the issue? I mean really, why does it matter if someone knows (anonymously don't forget) that there is someone out there who spends THAT long reading Dilbert grin

Cyndicate (http://cynicalpeak.com/cyndicate/) looks promising, although I'll admit that I use Google Reader instead.

I use Bloglines. I'm currently using their Beta interface actually, which I like quite a lot better than the old interface. Works great on a mac and is also nice on an iPhone, even over EDGE. I use it that way quite often.

It's not about the data Tim, in fact I already had NNW setup to sync with them (though I was thinking of turning it off because I never used their server version and it seemed to make NNW crash).

What if tomorrow I told everyone HelpSpot is free? How do you think the customers who have spent tens of thousands of dollars with me would feel? I bet they'd want their money back. They'd also be concerned how we're going to stay in business, etc etc. Plus with how their rep responded on the previous post it's just doesn't feel like an app I want to be using.

I'm sure my money will be good elsewhere!

Greader would be good Corey, but I do check private RSS feeds I'd rather not have sitting on a Google server somewhere.

Bloglines is old school!! Same problem as Greader though.

Hmm. Even a cursory look does indicate that the osx feed reader market is a bit thin.

I tried everything, but keep getting back to Google Reader.

Google Reader with OS X skin from http://www.hicksdesign.co.uk/journal/google-reader-theme

I've tried them all and Google Reader has always pulled me back.

Do you guys know if Greader even supports password authenticated feeds? I thought it did not.

Created by Ian on 01.10.2008 9:38 am

You have a point there...I don't think Google Reader supports authed feeds.

The three I'm looking at are Newsfire, Shrook, and Postino. Of those Shrook is free and has the ability to sync with a Shrook.com account. Oh, the dev sounds like he understands.

One key thing for me is to be able to visit the websites without going out to the browser. Looks like Postino does this, I can't tell if the others do.

VIENNA!!!!! I've been using Vienna since I first got my macbook and I love it. It's Open Source too. You'll want to donate to them after using it since it's a fantastic RSS Reader.

Cheers!
